German magazine Bunte reports that the favorite celebrity couple, Serbian former tennis icon, Ana Ivanović, 37 and her German footballer husband of nine years, Bastian Schweinsteiger, 40 have ended their marital relationship. Their fans are saddened on learning of their separation.
The news outlet has added that the two are living separate lives for the past two months. It was a quiet separation. But neither Ana nor Bastian have made any official announcement on their separation. It is not clear yet whether the two have initiated the legal process in any court.
Insiders have stated that Bastian is continuing with his busy schedules in Munich. He is a sports expert on ARD’s Sportschau program. And Ana has returned to Belgrad, Serbia with her three children which she shares with Bastian.
The relationship timeline of the couple
Ana started dating the German professional football player, Bastian in September 2014. After accepting his marriage proposal, Ana exchanged wedding vows with Bastian in Venice on 12th July 2016.
Later, in 2018, their first child, a son was born in Chicago. They named him Luka. In 2019 arrived their second child, son Leon. And their third baby, son Theo was born in May 2023.
The couple used to post their photos together on their respective social media pages. However, since many months, these ‘together photos’ had stopped. Their last pic together was in November 2024.
Since then, the two are posting just solo selfies or solo throwback pictures. In February 2025, Ana had uploaded a selfie on her social media. There was no wedding ring on her left hand in this photo. That had led people to speculate that all is not well between the two.
Reason for the separation
Sources have revealed that the couple grew apart because of their different lifestyles and increasing physical distance. This strained their relationship and led to the split. Bastian primarily wants to reside for good in Munich while Ana prefers to be close to her family in Belgrad. She has purchased a house there, 100 sq. meter in size for herself and her kids.
Despite their differences, the couple want to do a smooth co-parenting of their three children who are all minors still.
It was in 2004 Zurich Open that Ana gained fame when she qualified. However, she narrowly lost to Venus Williams that time.
But Ana managed to win against established players of those days such as Svetlana Kuznetsova, Amélie Mauresmo, Vera Zvonareva, Nadia Petrova and the like.
Subsequently, despite trying her level best, Ana could not achieve the same success. She dropped to no. 65 ranking in 2010. In 2014, Ana’s performance picked up and she won several matches. She reached no. 5 in works rankings. But in December 2016, Ana decided to quit sports and concentrate on her family life.
