Joss Stone is pregnant, expecting her fourth child
Joss Stone discovered she was pregnant only a few weeks after she and her husband, Cody DaLuz, adopted a baby boy named Bear.
The 37-year-old Grammy-winning singer announced her pregnancy, which will be her third biological child, in an Instagram post on December 19.
She shared a video where she looked shocked while holding a positive pregnancy test. The English soul singer then captioned the post,
“The one where mummy finds out. Honestly. Shocked was an understatement, Nothing and no one can take our joy now. We are so chuffed !!!! Maybe we should call the ‘Less is More’ tour the preggo tour.”
Further, Joss and Cody are already parents to two children, a 3-year-old daughter named Violet and a 2-year-old son named Shackleton.
Joss Stone discusses the joys and challenges of adopting her son Bear
On December 2, Joss announced on her Instagram reel that she and her husband had been “trying to adopt for a little while now.”
She shared an audio clip of a phone call in which they were told they “could pick up their baby” the next day.
The video included touching moments with their newborn son, Bear, who was born 11 weeks premature and is currently experiencing lung issues due to his early birth.
After spending 36 days in the hospital, Bear came home just before Thanksgiving.
In her update, the singer described sitting in the car with him because he is so small and vulnerable that he cannot go out yet.
She further shared her thoughts on the conflicting advice from the hospital. She explained,
“At the hospital they said: ‘Don’t take him out anywhere.’ But shortly after they said: ‘But make a doctor’s appointment’ and I thought: ‘Hang on you just told me not to take him out as his lungs are too vulnerable but you want me to bring him to the doctors where there are all these germs and stuff?’”
In her caption, she expressed disbelief over their recent experiences, stating,
“We are in love big time with this little guy. The reason why Cody even exists is because his bio mum loved him enough to make an adoption plan for him and the same goes for Bear, Honestly bio mothers do not get the gratitude they deserve. It is a more selfless love than I knew existed. Truly. We are just so happy to be part of this beautiful cycle.”
In a video posted on Instagram on December 9, Stone explained her preferences for naming her children.
For boys, she prefers names that are “strong but also friendly,” while for girls, she likes names that are “strong and beautiful.”
She mentioned liking the name Violet for a daughter because it has a similar sound to “violent,” which she believes adds an appealing edge.
Why did Joss Stone and Cody DaLuz adopt their third child?
Joss Stone revealed in an emotional interview with PEOPLE on December 16 that she and her husband have always dreamed of adopting a child and have been trying to do so for over a year and a half.
The Grammy award-winner shared their struggles, mentioning that they faced several setbacks.
“We’ve had some adoptions fall through, We’ve had moments where we were chosen, but we couldn’t get there in time. There’s been lots of things that have happened, and you start to feel like it’s not going to happen.”
However, the call they received about their son, Bear, was described by Stone as “the most beautiful thing.”
She expressed her admiration for Bear’s birth mother, saying,
“She could not be any nicer,”
Stone acknowledged that their journey has been filled with love rather than challenges. She stated,
“It’s all love. Everyone is just full of love for this little guy,”
The couple decided to pursue adoption after facing difficulties during the birth of their son in October 2022.
Doctors informed Stone that while she could have more children, she would not be able to give birth naturally due to a split in her uterus.
The Masked Singer UK winner reflected on her delivery, which involved a team of 15 doctors, expressing gratitude for their life-saving assistance, calling them “angels.”
Additionally, she opened up about experiencing a miscarriage before the birth of her son Shackleton. She described it as a deeply painful experience that many women endure.
She remarked on the emotional toll of such loss, saying,
“It’s a horrible, horrible thing. And it’s not something you can get over. It’s something that you have to live with”
